BEFRIENDING AND COMPANIONSHIP CARE faqs
How long does it take to arrange befriending and companionship?
Not very long at all. We have carers across East London that are available to provide support quickly and professionally. We can typically arrange care within a few days.
Why do older people need befriending and companionship?
Befriending and companionship services combat loneliness and isolation that can happen as a person gets older, less mobile and less able. People with dementia, those with sensory disabilities (loss of sight or hearing) and those who cannot get out of their homes appreciate the company and help.
What happens if the carer is ill or goes on holiday?
We have home care teams who are experienced in transitioning from family caregiver to agency care and from carer to carer. Jothno Care and Support will provide cover for the carer if they are ill or go on holiday and we will ensure a smooth transition.
Is it safe?
Yes, all of our care team have been DBS checked and trained in-house prior to placement. Jothno Care and Support’s service was rated Good by the CQC.
Can we have a south Asian carer?
We match our carers with families who are compatible. We will look at the needs (e.g. aging, dementia, physical disability, learning disability), personality, and cultural requirements of the person who needs care. We will also take into account any requests for a particular nationality of carer.
What does befriending and companionship include?
Befriending and companionship can be as simple as dropping in to visit the person at home to have a cup of chai with them. At times, this service can include aspects of home care, for example ensuring that they are up and dressed, have eaten a meal today, or can access the toilet when needed. We can arrange for a carer to accompany the person to local events, the doctor, and social or wellbeing activities.
